The definition for Journal :

Academic journal, a generic term referring to academic and scholarly periodicals in general. Scientific journal, an academic journal focusing on science. Medical journal, an academic journal focusing on medicine.
So, a Prayer Journal is focused on your prayers. If you are finding it hard to pray, then writing your prayers in a journal could be different method of communicating with God.
Some people don't know where to start. I started by praying Scripture, especially the Psalms. Or, if you want to grow in a certain aspect, use the issue you are struggling with as a theme.
Many people are struggling with Hope. They feel lost and hopeless, they don't have hope in their hearts and they don't have hope for our country.
Last year I self-published a Creative Prayer Journal : "Growing in Hope" . It has Scripture and quotes to ponder on, Questions to think about and challenges to execute. There are even pictures/sketches you can color in and enough space for writing your own prayers and thoughts.
